After several decades of offering a 10-week course of training every year exclusively for women runners and walkers, the Albuquerque Road Runners Club has made the difficult decision to discontinue this program. 

Directed by Victor and Kennalee Nemudrov for its first 20 years, Women in Training was developed at a time when women were not largely represented in the local running community. WIT provided a safe place for beginners to venture into an athletic endeavor that might otherwise have been intimidating. Led by mentors to guide and encourage the participants, the program generated camaraderie and set goals for steady improvements in fitness and form. And the ladies celebrated their achievements at the goal race, ARR's Women's Distance Festival 5k.

Now, however, women participants routinely outnumber the men in local races, and training programs and groups abound! With many such options available, plus declining enrollment in WIT, the purpose for this ARR series no longer seems compelling.   

We remain grateful to the many hundreds of women who joined WIT as trainees and as mentors! We are indebted to the Nemudrovs and their successor WIT leaders (including Martha Porter and Jane Cudney-Black) for their commitment and enthusiasm across the years. Kudos and best of luck to all of you!
