The 41st La Luz Trail Run was held on August 6, 2006 Simon Gutierrez and Rachel Dobbs did a repeat performance of the last several years. Simon took overall for the 8th time, and Rachel took female overall for the 4th time. Of the 340 finishers, 248 were male and 92 were women. The average age of the finishers was 42.9 with the most senior being Ruben Vigil at 78 and the youngest being Ryan Fenton at 15. Despite the late night thunderstorms the night before the race, the weather was cooperative during the race. There was only a light drizzle at worst, and it was cool and overcast for most of the race. The trail even had several stream crossings for the first time in many years. Although parts of the trail were gullied and slippery, there were no serious injuries. Even the runner with the worst fall can't wait to come back and run it again next year. Many thanks to Dos Hermanos for donating the green chili stew and to Boston Gourmet Pizza for donating the chicken noodle soup, bagels, fruit, and water. Crystal Springs donated water for the aid stations. The ham radio operators did their customary outstanding job of keeping track of the runners while helping with the aid station. And the Boy Scouts camped out on the trail, braving the stormy night to man the aid station at the overlook. Many thanks to all the volunteers who did such an outstanding job and especially to Rodger Sack, race director for the 8th year running. 2006 Overall Results 2006 Age Group Results |
